The modular concept leads to a variety of efficient solutions and multiple options. The combination of a variable number of modules, equipped according to the wishes of the users, allows the constitution of independent functional and perfectly coherent entities.

Each unit of an entity can be operated independently and sent for dedicated mission

Whatever the arrangement, an entity ascertains a rapid and efficient surgical support of high quality.

  • Exceptional mobility: sustainability for forces in a combat situation
Each unit and the whole field hospital are easily and rapidly transported on any military tactical truck, C130 Hercules plane, by sea or rail. In transport position, the expandable container has ISO 20 feet standard dimensions.

  • Rapidity to be deployed and moved away : the key for medical efficiency in the field.
Rapid assembly and disassembly of a MODULMED Mobile Surgical Hospital improves 10 times the performance of other existing medical mobile equipment. Easy and safe set up and move away of a whole hospital is operated in less than one-hour time, even by night (4 units and wards).
The expansion of the expanded container is performed in less than 2 minutes. Once on site, it is ready to be operated.

  • Surgical and medical support near the front line or close to the concerned disaster area. One module can be operated independently and sent for dedicated mission or for emergency interventions in case of disaster.

  • Economic way to save the wounded (compared to evacuation)

  • Exceptional flexibility of the medical support able to cope with logistic plan modifications (low cost of this flexibility since the mobility and the rapidity allowed by the equipment do not require additional reserve equipment). Flexibility because each unit can be operated independently one to another. Modularity because a field hospital is set up according to different site organizations. Modularity because a hospital integrates additional functional units as it can be operated with some units only.

  • Heavy duty durability

  • Advanced technology, original know how and worldwide patents developed by a highly specialized staff of scientists and technicians with the support of the specialized medical and technical services of Ministries of Defense.

  • Rationality of conception and operation

  • Standardization of 20 feet ISO containers, standardization of the components

  • N.B.C. & N.E.M.P. protection

  • E.M. compatibility

  • Interoperability within and between different units of the same organization or between several organisms participating to the same mission (interoperability within and between Allied Forces). Integration in any existing structure.

  • Conformity with NATO quality control specifications officially tested and validated.

  • Easy maintenance

Use

Each unit composing a field hospital or the entire field hospital allow an efficient and sustained medical support in any peculiar situations, it offers :

  • a classical medical support of combat forces during operation
  • the medical support of intervention forces under UN umbrella
  • rapid medical intervention in case of emergency situations such as industrial and/or natural disasters.

Composition of a field hospital: examples of realizations

Illustration with a Mobile Surgical Entity

The company has developed in close collaboration with the medical and technical services of several Ministries of Defense, efficient Mobile Infrastructures and Field Hospitals.

This mobile surgical entity, finalized with the collaboration of the health services of the Belgian Army, is composed of four (4) modules (operating unit, pre-operating unit, post-operating unit and sterilization, laboratory, technical unit). Each module can be operated either on ground or at trucks and trailers level. They are autonomous and constitute the nucleus of the hospital around which is put the classical network of tents with their entrance, examination and hospitalization beds.

Each module is a monobloc cell inserted into a metallic structure. The one-piece panels are constituted of two sheets in polyester reinforced by fiberglass enveloping insulating foam. Internal structures distribute the solicitations, caused by transportation, to the shelter as a whole and allow firm and long-lasting fixations of all equipment.

The care brought to the conception and the realization of the modules along with the meticulously selection of materials ensure good thermal insulation, high resistance to impact, lack of corrosion, ease of repair, durability...

The modules can be operated on ground or directly on trailers and trucks. Adjustable stabilization jacks realize the perfect leveling of each of them as well as of the complete system. Hydraulic controlled metallic platforms fixed on certain modules constitute a walking area between the modules. The total system is completely operational in a few hours.

The equipment of the modules varies with their functional role.

The operating unit is composed of the operating room and of a contiguous room with external exit. The operating room is conceived and equipped for major surgery under gaseous anesthesia and allows radiographic pre-operation exams. The adjacent room is devoted to preparation of the surgeons, development of the X-ray photos and storage of the surgery trays and drugs for the operation room.

The air conditioning controls the temperature and renews the breathing air. In case of electric power interruption, an emergency "no break" system, with batteries, ensures the correct functioning of the operating lamps and of all other electric instruments during 2 hours:
normally sufficient to complete an intervention.

The pre-operating unit is conceived and equipped for the clinical exam, the cardio- reanimation actions and the preparation of patients for surgery intervention. In case of necessity ventilation of the patents and minor surgical interventions can be executed in this room. It communicates directly with the operating room, which is therefore isolated from the external world.

The post-operating unit is equipped with 2 central beds for intensive cares and 8 side beds, with oxygen possibilities, allotted to post-surgery cares. The folding of the lateral panels, to which these 8 beds are fixed, triples the available ground surface.

The laboratory, sterilization, technical unit includes:

  • a sterilization room.
  • a laboratory equipped for haematology, biochemistry and microscopy.
  • a technical room with water storage and distribution, medical compressed air production and distribution and control panel for the electrical power distribution.

The exceptional deployment rapidity of such a surgical unit as well as its polyvalent mode of transportation (air, ground, sea, rail) allow efficient intervention in any emergency situations and furnish a quality medical support for operations out of national territories.

Modularity

The chosen field hospital can be upgraded or expanded at any time with supplementary units

For example :

(A four (4) units field hospital with one (1) expandable container)

(A four (4) units field hospital with three (3) expandable containers)

(A six (6) units field hospital with four (4) expandable containers)

(A ten (10) units field hospital with four (4) expandable containers)

Site Organization

Example of different site organizations for a field hospital

The all functions or any of them are used following the peculiar needs of an intervention. Each unit can be assembled in different ways according to the available space and the logistic site organization

Rapid deployment

The four units field hospital is ready to be operated in less than one hour. Rapidity has been officially validated according to NATO standard.

However, the Belgian Army sets up a complete mobile field hospital (as described) in 17 minutes.
